Hey everyone,

Dojo team here.

First of all, we wanted to thank you for being a part of the Dota Dojo. It's because of you that we created it - and it's also why we want to get better, together. For this reason, we've decided to move from rules to values in our server. Read on to see what your role is in it.

As BSJ is currently off being an analyst at DreamLeague Season 28, we hope to see you in the Dojo discussing the games and spotting Brian (no spoilers, but we think you may have trouble recognizing him on screen sometimes).

A Shift From Rules To Values

A couple of weeks ago we decided to change rules to values in the Dojo. Here’s what they look like now:

  1. Our mission is to turn Dota from toxic to enjoyable.

  2. Our goal is long term improvement built on a foundation of enjoying the game

  3. We believe improvement starts with enjoyment.

  4. In the Dojo we are all teammates, and our teammates are not our enemies.

  5. We value attitude over skill.

  6. We seek to understand others rather than correct them.

  7. We accept perspectives from players of all skill levels.

  8. We support newcomers to the community and to the game.

  9. This is a space where people are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them.

  10. We encourage accountability through self-reflection and respect for others

  11. We are not afraid to ask others for feedback and only provide feedback when we are asked to do so.

  12. We protect this respectful & growth-oriented space by removing spam, harassment, and behaviors that undermine our mission to make Dota enjoyable.

Why the change?

We recognize that our community is all about getting better at Dota while also enjoying the game. It took us some time to come up with the mission statement. We have it now. In the server, we aim to improve while turning Dota from toxic to enjoyable.

Many of you joined our server to find an oasis from the game's pervasive problem: toxicity. That's exactly what sets you and every Dojo member apart from a lot of the players.

Initially, we created the rules to protect our community. We soon discovered that the majority of us in the Dojo already uphold these values. That's why we wanted to encourage the behavior that results in one thing for sure: making progress in the game while enjoying playing in a non-toxic environment.

Your Role

We understand sometimes emotions can get the better of us. We also know that, as Dojo members, each of us would take accountability, apologize, and try to do better next time. Dota is a high-pressure game. That's why so many of us love the thrill.

Please remember to reach out to mods if you see anyone not acting according to our values. You can file a ticket or reach out to the mods directly. See some toxic behavior? Scroll down the menu and open the ticket in the #get-server-help section.

DreamLeague Season 28 and Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo? More like Finding BSJ. It's time for February to get even more exciting. This is the month of DreamLeague - and we're sure you can't wait to see what this season has in store.

Head out to the chat in the Dojo server and let's discuss the games.

Do you have a favorite team?
Can you make a couple of predictions?
Who's gonna reach the finals and why?
Seen anything surprising during the games? Share it with others in the Dojo!

We'll let you in on a little secret. As you know, BSJ is going to be analyzing some of the series. But something might look... different. Will you recognize him on screen every time? Or maybe something in the way he looks... surprises you?

The tournament starts on Monday. You can find the exciting games (as well as BSJ) on Twitch.

See you in the Dojo!
